Maxxis Ignitor 2,1s have worked very well for me - a good all-around tire for sure.

I have "normal" Shimano LX cranks (with the new external BB). Just took off the granny and big ring and put a rock rick into the place of the big ring. I also used some old Da Bomb "singulator kit" in the rear - making for easy configuration, see here:
http://homeboyski.com/2008/07/10/going-fully-rigid-mountain-biking-related/

Single speed specific rear hub and cranks (e.g. Middleburn Uno) would be cool though - but I'm not sure if the performace gained would be worth the money? I probably do these upgrades if I'm ever going to buy a FS 29er (and still keep this bike)?

Any recommendations on a good all around 29er tire? What drivetrain configuration do you have set up on this bike?
